Waste-to-energy plant: RWAs to cite Agra case

Residents of Sukhdev Vihar and Haji Colony, who have been staunchly opposing a waste-to-energy plant in their area, received a boost to their campaign. A similar plant being set up in Agra, UP, might be scrapped after the UP government made it clear that it was not willing to fund the refuse derived fuel (RDF) component of the project.

ONGC to enter solar energy business

After unveiling its plans to harness wind energy, ONGC, the country's leading crude and gas producer, now plans to foray into solar and geothermal energy.

The company is in talks with four companies, including a US-based firm, for setting up a photovoltaic (PV) cells unit.

The oil and gas major is also exploring geothermal energy for which it is in talks with Iceland government. All these projects will be carried out under its ONGC Energy Centre housed at Rajiv Gandhi Urja Bhavan, New Delhi.

Promotion of biofuels wont be at cost of farm produce

While a policy for biofuels has been cleared last week and targets have been set to step up diesel blending, senior government officials are of the view that no foodgrain or oil-seed should be used for producing biofuels.

Cabinet sets 2017 biofuel target of 20 pc blending

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 11 Envisaging a target of 20 per cent blending of bio-diesel and bio-ethanol by year 2017, the Cabinet today approved the National Policy for Bio-fuels. The Cabinet also approved setting up of a National Bio-fuel Coordination Committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and a Bio-fuel Steering Committee under the chairmanship of Cabinet secretary for the implementation of the National Policy for Bio-fuels.
