THE Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on Monday notified regulation on renewable energy certificate (REC) to promote renewable sources of energy and development of market in electricity.

New Delhi: Soon, one might see cultivation of plants like Jatropha and Karanja for biofuel production in the Ridge area and along all major drains in the city. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday said that the government would study the viability of the proposal to ensure that no agricultural land is given up for growing these crops.

Determined to make a presence felt in the renewable energy area, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has come up with a notification to regulate renewable energy.
This new framework titled Regulation on Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is expected to give renewable energy a major push.

Pushing hard for renewable sources of energy, minister of new and renewable energy Farooq Abdullah has asked President of Iceland, Dr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, to assist India in developing geothermal energy.
Iceland has been in the forefront of developing geothermal energy and hydro power and is currently generating 575 MW geothermal energy against a capacity of 10,500 MW.
