Thailand stocktaking report on sustainable transport and climate change

sheeja's picture

The transport sector is a major consumer of energy and with 59 Mt CO2, or 17% of total greenhouse gases, the 2nd largest emitter in Thailand. This translates into 0.88 tonnes per capita. Freight and passenger transport are almost equal in their contribution to energy use and GHG emissions. The Bangkok metropolitan area is responsible for about 44% of emissions. In order to reduce energy consumption, emissions and other externalities, sustainable transport policies and strategies are being developed and implemented. This report reviews existing data, policies and international donor activity in the area of sustainable transport, in order to provide policy-makers, researchers, international donors and other stakeholders a reference document for sustainable transport and climate change.
