Status of ambient noise level in India

Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has set up Real Time National Ambient Noise Monitoring Network in the year 2011 covering nine cities (Delhi, Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore). Under section 2 (a) of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 noise is defined as air pollutant. Noise is generated from different indoor and outdoor sources such as industries, transport vehicles, construction activities, generator sets, fire-crackers. This document provides city wise status of ambient noise level during the period of last four years i.e 2011 to 2014. The report also includes information on instrumentation involved in its implementation relating to noise measurement.
