Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Adverse Effect of Chemical Fertilizers on Climate, 10/03/2017. Scientific studies have revealed that there is no harmful effect of chemical fertilisers with balanced and judicious use, rather have beneficial effect as it encourages soil carbon sequestration. The emission of nitrous oxide from nitrogeneous fertilizers may be reduced through adoption of soil test based balanced and integrated nutrient management practices, split application and placement of nitrogenous fertilisers, slow releasing N-fertilisers including Neem Coated Urea, nitrification inhibitors, Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) and System of Rice Intensification (SRI) etc.
