The  present status of nuclear energy technology is the result of over 50 years of development and operational experience.

 The latest designs for nuclear power plants, now under construction, incorporate lessons learned from this experience as well as recent technological developments to offer enhanced safety and performance. Nuclear power is a mature low-carbon technology that is already available today for wider deployment.
