Investing in renewable energy: the GEF experience

The application of renewable energy technologies can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollution using energy sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, tidal, geothermal, and biomass. These renewable sources are less vulnerable to the volatility of the fossil fuel markets, bring the added benefits of stimulating employment and technological development, and can contribute to economic growth. The purpose of this brochure is to present the portfolio of renewable energy projects supported by the GEF. The brochure features experiences of the GEF and its partners in developing policies and regulations to catalyze renewable energy technologies in developing countries and transition economies.
