Integrating urban agriculture and forestry into climate change action plans: lessons from Western Province, Sri Lanka and Rosario, Argentina

Urban and peri-urban agriculture and forestry may be suitable strategies to address the triple challenge of climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as the provision of basic services, including food; to a growing number of urban residents. The Western Province, Sri Lanka; Rosario and the Province of Santa Fé, Argentina are supporting local agriculture to reduce dependency on imports, as a flood risk reduction strategy, and to improve urban food security. This background paper describes their programmes and policies in further detail and outlines key lessons learned.
