Expanding solar energy in North Africa to achieve climate targets
This policy brief examines the feasibility of scaling up solar power development in North Africa to promote regional
development goals on the one hand, and climate protection targets for North Africa and Europe on the other. It identifies the opportunities, risks, and challenges associated with efforts to expand solar energy capacity in North Africa to the point where it can make a significant contribution toward achieving emissions reductions targets.
The Policy Brief presents results from empirical & modeling- based research, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the European Climate Foundation, carried out jointly by researchers at IIASA and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
