Suzlon Energy to make foray into solar power

NEW DELHI: Leading wind power equipment maker Suzlon Energy on Monday announced its plans to venture into the solar energy sector.

Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of the ongoing India Economic Summit here, Suzlon Energy chairman and Managing Director, Tulsi R. Tanti said this would be in addition to the plans for tapping the wind power potential in the country.

EPA raises '09 US renewable motor fuel requirement

The Environmental Protection Agency Monday increased the amount of renewable motor fuels, mostly ethanol, required to be sold in the United States next year.

The higher standard is required by a law that boosts the use of renewable fuels steadily each year to 36 billion gallons by 2022 to help make gasoline burn cleaner, stretch available US motor fuel supplies and reduce petroleum imports.

The West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation is dangling an extra-income option and tax sops before companies to make them generate solar power.

For a month from November 15, business establishments with roofs larger than 50,000 sq ft can seek permission from the corporation to produce solar power there.
