Karnataka to add 6000 MW of power through renewable energy

Karnataka plans to add 6000 MW through renewable energy resources in the next four years, a top official said today.

The state government had set out three goals in terms of energy. It was focussing on ensuring energy for all, being energy efficient and "greening" energy, Karnataka Energy Department Additional Chief Secretary K Jairaj said.

In an attempt to encourage the renewable energy sector, the government will issue renewable energy certificates, which can be traded on the power exchange.

Currently, the renewable energy accounts for just 3.5 per cent of the total energy generated. Of this, 70 per cent comes from wind energy and solar is very low.
