To promote solar power for off-grid applications for both thermal as well as photovoltaic, the Government is offering financial support through a combination of 30 per cent subsidy and/or five per cent interest bearing loans for companies in the business.

The Indian Wind Power Association, a representative body of wind energy generation companies, has approached the Andhra Pradesh Government with a request to hike the power tariff from Rs 3.50 to Rs 7 per unit.

This would help attract more investments into the State. Even if such a hike made, the tariff would still be lower than the peak purchase tariff of Rs 8 per unit, it contended.

Subsidy covers almost half the total cost for installing the power pack

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) is looking to promote the use of solar-powered inverters in homes for domestic consumption.

Srinagar: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has said 20,000 MW will be generated from solar energy in the state in the next 10 years.

He said possibilities to produce more power from water and wind energy to minimise the huge expenditure on the exploitation of conventional sources of energy would also be explored.

The State is all set to establish itself as a pioneer in solar power generation with the commissioning of a solar power plant near Kolar on June 17.

Apart from the three megawatts (MW) grid-operated solar power plant to be set up by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), two more projects are nearing completion in Belgaum and Raichur.

The Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) today said, it was estimated that around 5,000 mega watt (Mw) of power can be generated through wind energy in Tamil Nadu. Of this, 4,889 Mw has already achieved in March. The agency also said wind-based power generation will be enhanced further and next focus will be on solar.
