Solar bridge over canals to bridge power gap in Punjab

Power-Starved Punjab scripted a sunshine story on Wednesday by giving nod to a 1-MW project that will use the space above canals to generate solar power. First-of-its-kind project outside the US, it will be based on the design of Golden Gate in California, which uses triple galvanised cables.

1,000-MW Karcham Wangtoo Project to be Operational by August 16

Jaiprakash Associates-promoted 1,000-MW Karcham Wangtoo hydel power project in Himachal Pradesh will be fully operational from August 16, three months ahead of schedule, managing director DP Goyal said.
The first 250-MW unit of the Karcham Wangtoo project had commenced operations in May this year, he said.

Second phase of Baglihar project a non-starter

People in electricity-starved Jammu and Kashmir may have to wait for at least four years for the completion of the second phase of the 900-MW Baglihar hydroelectric project over the Chenab in Chanderkote.
