Biodegradable polythene

ipsita's picture

Scientists at the National Research Development Centre, New Delhi, have developed a bio-degradable polythene material that could have potential impact on the packaging industry. The material made-up of 60 per cent virgin ethylene and 40 per cent starch, is extrudable and mouldable. Film produced with this material has adequate mechanical strength. The new plastic takes only two months under soil burial for complete bio-degradation.
