Sarus Crane population fluctuation at various wetlands at Bharatpur in Rajasthan State of India

The objective of the present report is 1) to focus on the present and past status of Sarus Crane 2) to throw light on the factors responsible for population decline, if any and 3) to recommend measures for Sarus conservation in the region. The study was conducted in selected areas of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan State in a radius of about 100 km from Keoladeo National Park (KNP).

Inspection report on M/S Vedanta Aluminium Limited, Lanjigarh, Dist: Kalahandi

The industry has not taken adequate steps on the problems identified by the Board Officials during their visit to the industry from 2nd to 4th, Nov., 2007. It has also not complied to the points specified in Show Cause Notice and Directions issued by the Board. Some more problems like seepage/leakage from Dirty Water Pond, adjacent to Vanshadhara River have been identified.

Mining

Chhattisgarh is a rich State in terms of mineral wealth, with so far known 28 varieties of minerals, including diamonds. Chhattisgarh, has substantial coal deposits, which led to its 'power hub' strategy. The tin ore which is a rare metal in India is found in Chhattisgarh. The best quality iron ore deposits in the world are found in the Bailadila mines of Dantewara district in Chhattisgarh. Rich deposits of Bauxite, Limestone, Dolomite and Corundum are also found in the State.
