Over the past 30 years, China has developed rapidly to become the world’s second largest economy, reaching the status of a middle-income country. Moradabad is known for its e-waste recycling industry. The city is located on the banks of the Ramganga, an important tributary of the Ganga.

Despite progress, South Asia has failed to capitalize on urbanization says the World Bank report released this week. Instead of using increasing urbanization as a vehicle to convey prosperity to a greater number of people, the countries of the region have “difficulty in dealing with the pressures that increased urban populations put on infrastructure, basic services, land, housing and the environment,” which in turn has fostered “messy and hidden” urbanization

The state government approved the rules for the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013, which is regarded as a major shot in the arm to several development projects that were stalled in the name of land acquisition.

On September 16, 2015, the Central Government launched the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY). The scheme has been noted by the Ministry of Mines as “a revolutionary and unprecedented scheme of its kind, which will transform the lives of people living in areas which are affected directly or indirectly by mining”.
