Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Conversion of census towns into statutory towns, 11/08/2016. As per Census, 2011, the total number of census towns in the country is 3892. State wise details are given in Annexure. Declaration of census towns into statutory towns is done by the respective state governments under their statues.
