Draft Notification declaring Eco Sensitive Area around Western Ghats, India

The Environment Ministry has for the third time notified the proposed ecologically sensitive areas (ESAs) in the Western Ghats, despite Tamil Nadu’s continued opposition to the proposal. The draft notification was reissued on February 27 as the previous notification, issued on September 4, 2015, is set to expire within a month.

Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017

The Mines Ministry has decided to impose a penalty of up to Rs.500,000 on those who violate provisions of Mineral Conservation and Development Rules 2017. The ministry has notified the new rules which will be supersede Mineral Conservation and Development Rules 1988. It had a provision of fine of Rs.50,000, or imprisonment up to two years.
