A publication launched by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) DTU Partnership (UDP) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) showcases practices that have been developed in monitoring and evaluating climate change adaptation. The report, titled ‘Good Practices in Designing and Implementing National Monitoring Systems for Adaptation to Climate Change,' compiles lessons learned from building and implementing indicator systems. Produced in partnership with the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE), the publication also analyzes and compares practices in the design and deployment of national monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of adaptation. The report provides an overview of the stages of M&E processes, of the process and criteria of selecting indicators, and of classification of indicators. It then reviews nine challenges to M&E, including replicability, the balance between efficiency and effectiveness, and choosing an appropriate timeframe and period for evaluation.
