Resource rich tribal poor: displacing people, destroying identity in Indias indigenous heartland
Submitted by sheeja on Tue, 2008-01-01 21:10
The report examines the nature and extent of development-induced displacement in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Orissa. More than 40 percent of India's indigenous people live in this zone. Breaching all measures to protect the rights of these communities as guaranteed by the Constitution of India, the respective governments have been leasing land, mines, forest and water to companies destroying the ecology, environment and livelihoods.
