AP to get solar power policy soon

The state government is contemplating a comprehensive solar power policy as a large of solar power projects are in the pipeline in Andhra Pradesh. A study team that recently toured Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, said that consultants will now be appointed to give recommendations for the policy.

WR, CR to go green with fuel from plants

The Western and Central railways have decided to go green in order to reduce its carbon footprint. They have been planting saplings of jatropha, a major source of bio-diesel, on pilot basis.

China's Nobao Renewable Energy Revives IPO Plan

China's energy efficiency company Nobao Renewable Energy Holdings Ltd revived its plan for a U.S. listing on Friday, filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering of up to $300 million.

Private equity-backed Nobao had previously filed for the same-sized IPO in April 2010 and later trimmed back the size to $180 million.

Sailing on a solar boat

KOCHI: Lifeway Solar Devices Pvt Ltd, headquartered in Kochi, did a demonstration ride of their newly-designed solar churulan vallam in the Kochi backwaters. The solar boat can continuously run for about four hours. The DC current produced from 200 watt solar panel collected in a battery is used to run the boat. The boat with an operator and four commuters can travel at a speed of 15 km/hr.
