The population dynamics of endemic cholera in urban environments—in particular interannual variation in the size and distribution of seasonal outbreaks—remain poorly understood and highly unpredictable. In part, this situation is due to the considerable demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental heterogeneity of large and growing urban centers.

The atmospheric and deep sea reservoirs of carbon dioxide are linked via physical, chemical, and biological processes. The last of these include photosynthesis, particle settling, and organic matter remineralization, and are collectively termed the “biological carbon pump.” Herein, we present results from a 13-y (1992–2004) sediment trap experiment conducted in the permanently oligotrophic North Pacific Subtropical Gyre that document a large, rapid, and predictable summertime pulse in particulate matter export to the deep sea (4,000 m).

Rickettsial infection, or rickettsiosis, is a zoonotic acute febrile illness caused by obligate intracellular, gram-negative bacteria from the genera Rickettsia, Orientia, Ehrlichia, Neorickettsia, and Anaplasma. Rickettsiosis is spread by tick or mite bites. Rickettsial infections are reported in various parts of the world. Scrub typhus, which is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, is the most commonly reported rickettsial infection on the Indian subcontinent [3–6,10–12].

Assessment of adaptations to floods through bottom up approach: a case of three agro climatic zones of Assam, India

To unearth the priorities in Assam to cope with floods effectively, the prime objective of this research study is on assessment of the adaptation measures, structural and non-structural, to floods in three districts of Assam, viz. Dhemaji, Jorhat and Dhubri representing North Bank Plains, Upper Brahmaputra Valley and Lower Brahmaputra Valley, agro-climatic zones respectively.
