The economic case to stimulate LED lighting in India

Expert committee report by Ministry of Power on Economics of LED lighting in India. Identifies major barriers to LEDs penetration and details the road map to be taken up at policy & action levels to accelerate it.

This paper looks at the policy option of using a bundled Multi-State Demand Side Management Programme (MSDP) to significantly enhance demand for energy efficient lighting devices, in particular LED, with appropriate policy instruments to enable domestic manufacturing of the devices. This option would target at overcoming the barriers to market penetration of energy efficient equipment.
