Press Release by Resources for the Future & the National Energy Policy Institute (NEPI) on comprehensive economic analysis of more than 35 available policy options for reducing U.S. oil consumption & curbing carbon dioxide emissions through 2030.

The Centre has formulated a National Litigation Policy to reduce the cases pending in various courts in India under the National Legal Mission to reduce average pendency time from 15 years to 3 years. This was announced by Dr.M.Veerappa Moily, Minister of Law and Justice while announcing the National Litigation Policy.

The Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill 2010 prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. This is to further amend the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 & strengthen the existing provisions for penalties, traps, criminal procedure etc.

Environmental pollution in industrial clusters is a national issue particularly in a period which is witnessing a rapid industrial growth. The environmental problem in a cluster is a complex multi-dimensional problem which is often difficult to measure and manage.

The existing share of renewables in total electricity is around 3.9% in 2009-10. This has been achieved owing to continuous focus and support from the Government, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Forum of Regulators (FOR), State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs) and the other supporting bodies like MNRE and IREDA.

The Jindal Power Limited is directed to refer to this Ministry's letter of even no. dated 31st March, 2009 prescribing the Terms of Reference for 4X600MW coal based power project at Tamnar in district Raigarh in Chhattisgarh for undertaking detalied EIA study.

Letter requesting the Secretary (Environment), Government of Chhattisgarh, to take action against the Jindal Power Limited (JPL) by invoking powers under Section 19 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 for commencing construction of 4X600MW power project at Tamnar in district Raigarh in Chhattisgarh without obtaining prior environmental clearance.

Climate finance and the development of the global low-carbon economy are crucial elements for discussion at G8 and G20. An outcome form these Summits can be leveraged positively by formal UN negotiations.
