Improving heat rate of power plants

Heat exchangers and condensers are subject to fouling, corrosion, biofouling and scaling due to the quality of cooling water and operating conditions prevailing at the power stations. Scaling or fouling in the condensers result in loss of vacuum, increase in heat rate and consequently loss in generation, whereas corrosion results in damage to condenser tubes and damage to condenser tubes and damage to boiler tubes. Recently NETRA investigated and implemented remedial measures in respect of severe scaling and fouling of a power plant having two units of 110 MW each.
