Macro landslide hazard zonation mapping - Case Study from Bodi - Bodimettu Ghats section, Theni District, Tamil Nadu

4

Landslide is a common natural hazard that usually occurs in mountainous areas. Rapid urban development and high traffic intensity movements have been hampered to a great extent by phenomenon of landslides. In the present study, Maco Landslide Hazard Zonation was carried out in the Bodi-Bodimettu ghats section, Western Ghats, Theni district.

Soil resource database at village level for developmental planning

4

A study was carried out in village Mohamadabad, Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh to demonstrate the potential of high-resolution remote sensing data in generating soil resource database at village level that would facilitate natural resource developmental planning. For this study, detail soil resource database was generated by interpreting IRS Resourcesat-1 LISS-IV + Cartosat-1 merged data and by undertaking soil survey and soil analysis.

Validity of simple, novel measures of generalized and central obesity among young Asian Indian women

Publication Date:
01/12/2011

The study examined the validity of simple and novel measures of generalized obesity- [body mass index (BMI, kg/m 2 ), fat mass index (FMI, kg/m 2 ), and body fat percent (BF%)] and central obesity- [waist circumference (WC, cm), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WC/ht ratio)] against BF% and BMI as criteria. It also aimed to predict fat-free mass index (FFMI, kg/m 2 ), FMI, and BF% ranges for various BMI categories.

Black carbon aerosol characteristics and its radiative impact over Nainital: A high-altitude station in the Central Himalayas

Ground-based measurements of aerosol black carbon (BC), from a high altitude location at Nainital in the central Himalayas (during June 2006 to May 2007), were used to study its temporal variability and impact on the atmospheric radiative forcing. Diurnal variation of BC mass concentration shows single enhanced peak in the late afternoon hour. The peak is rather pronounced in winter months due to shallow and stable boundary layer condition, which is largely associated with low surface temperature.

Development of representative conceptual groundwater flow model is an important step before translating it into a numerical model. In this paper, a methodology for development of conceptual groundwater flow model has been presented in which spatially distributed values for groundwater recharge has been utilized instead of lump sum average values of recharge normally obtained by water budgeting method. The study also extensively uses GIS for preprocessing of hydrological, hydrogeological and geological data.
