Global, national, and urban burdens of paediatric asthma incidence attributable to ambient NO₂ pollution: estimates from global datasets

Globally, the estimates suggest that there are 170 new cases of traffic pollution-related asthma per 100,000 children every year, and 13% of childhood asthma cases diagnosed each year are linked to traffic pollution. The country with the highest proportion of traffic pollution-attributable childhood asthma incidence was South Korea (31%), the UK ranked 24th out of 194 countries, the US 25th, China 19th, and India 58th.

Emergence of robust precipitation changes across crop production areas in the 21st century

Using 21st century climate model projections we show that for many crop-producing regions, average precipitation will change by more than the long-term natural variability, even under a low-emission scenario. However, emissions compatible with the Paris Agreement can significantly reduce cropped land affected.

Benthic communities of mesophotic coral ecosystem off Puducherry, east coast of India

The shallow coral reef ecosystems along the Indian coast are being threatened by anthropogenic global ocean warming and increased frequency of coral bleaching in the recent past. Identification and conservation of deeper reef habitats are essential as they serve as a source of larvae and livestock to replenish the shallow reef habitats. Information on the location and spatial extent of the mesophotic coral ecosystems (MCEs) and their biodiversity is poorly known in the continental shelf of the east coast of India.

Keeping phase III tuberculosis trials relevant: Adapting to a rapidly changing landscape

One of the first multicenter randomized trials was the British Medical Research Council (MRC) streptomycin trial. From the first meeting of the special committee to “plan trials of streptomycin in tuberculosis” in September, 1946, the primary trial results from 107 participants followed for 12 months were published in the British Medical Journal two years later in October, 1948. Although treatment with a single drug was subsequently shown to be inadequate because of the generation of drug resistance, the results of the trial changed clinical practice.

Monitoring opencast mine restorations using Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) imagery

Open-pit mine is still an unavoidable activity but can become unsustainable without the restoration of degraded sites. Monitoring the restoration after extractive activities is a legal requirement for mine companies and public administrations in many countries, involving financial provisions for environmental liabilities.
