Stochastic consideration of relationship between occurrences of earthquake and fluctuations in the radio wave propagation

Research of the geophysical electromagnetic phenomena with seismic activity is important for hazard-resistant strategy. Many papers which indicate the existence of geophysical electromagnetic phenomena associated with earthquakes are reported frequently. Anomalous propagation in the radio waves is sometimes related with earthquakes. In previous paper, authors proposed a new concept to estimate the relation between earthquakes and anomalous line-of-sight propagation in VHF band by statistical approach.

Walia ibex have increased in number and shifted their habitat range within Simien Mountains National Park, Ethiopia

Walia ibex (Capra walie) is an endemic and endangered species restricted to Simien Mountains National Park (SMNP). The population of walia ibex appeared to have gradually increased during the decade before our study. Our goal was to determine the current population status of walia ibex in SMNP. We conducted censuses throughout 2009 to 2011 to study population size, structure, and distribution of individuals. We stratified the Park using habitat features into eight different census sites, and a simultaneous total count was used to estimate the population size of walia ibex.

Comparative analysis of old, recycled and new PV modules

1

Publication Date:
01/01/2017

This paper presents comparative analysis of old, recycled and new PV modules. It is possible to recycle even very old products by modern standard processes in a value-conserving manner. About 90% of the materials recovered from solar panels can be recycled into useful products. Carbon emission and energy cost are low in manufacturing recycled SPV. Modules can be manufactured with recycled materials and reinstalled in systems as a full quality product with today’s technology good for another 25–30 years. Analysis of all the models of PV module is done with the help of MATLAB.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiations from the Sun in the spectral range 100-280 nm react with the stratospheric atmosphere, and oxygen molecules (O2) and atoms (O) combine to produce ozone (O3). Since there are destruction processes also, the equilibrium amount is small, only a few percent of the atmosphere. However, it serves a very vital, useful purpose as it absorbs UV in the spectral range 280-320 nm (termed as UVB), which is very dangerous for terrestrial life and is a cause of skin cancer, etc.

Diwali is one of the major and most important festivals celebrated all over India which falls in the period late October to early November every year. It is associated with burning of firecrackers especially during the night of Diwali day that leads to degradation of air quality that lasts for a longer duration of time. Firecrackers on burning releases huge amount of trace gases such as NOx, CO, SO2 and O3 and huge amount of aerosols and particulate matter.

Trend analysis of hydro-climatic variables provide useful information for effective planning, designing and management of water resources and agricultural production. Trends in observed stream flow at upstream and midstream gauging stations (GS), Wellawaya, Thanamalwila & rainfall and temperature in the Kirindi Oya river basin were assessed using the Mann-Kendall, Modified Mann-Kendall and Sen’s slope. Average rainfalls for the two catchments and for the entire basin were computed using ‘Thessen polygon’ method.

The nature of urban household water demand and consumption in Makhado Local Municipality: A case study of Makhado Newtown

Water crisis has become a norm worldwide as many countries are entering an era of severe water shortage. Water plays a vital role within households though urban water authorities and water planners are struggling to satisfy the growing urban water demands and at the same time failing to achieve sustainable urban water systems. Water consumption was guided by a Calculation by Grag 2011.

Linking farmers to markets for high-value agricultural commodities

Growing demand for high-value food commodities is opening up opportunities for farmers, especially smallholders to diversify towards commodities that have strong potential for higher returns to land, labour and capital. But, there is an apprehension about the capability of smallholders to participate in the market-oriented production due to their lack of access to markets, capital, inputs, and technology and extension services.
