The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has set out to produce comprehensive, reliable data sets on renewable energy capacity and use worldwide. The 2016 Renewable Energy Statistics Yearbook shows data sets on renewable power-generation capacity for 2006-2015, renewable power generation for 2006-2014 and renewable energy balances for 100 countries and areas for 2013 and 2014. Further, it features statistics on investments in renewable energies from 18 major multi-lateral, bilateral and national development financial institutions presented for the period 2009-2014.

The World Bioenergy Association (WBA) is pleased to publish the 3rd Global Bioenergy Statistics report. The report shows that bioenergy is growing at a steady pace. In the year 2013, global biomass supply increased to 57.7 EJ accounting for 10% of the global energy supply. In terms of final energy consumption, the bioenergy use increased by 1.23 EJ – a modest increase of 0.05% over the past year. The share of bioenergy in final energy was 13.9%. The share of renewables was steady at 18.3% and the slow pace of growth is unsettling. Renewables contribution in electricity was 22%.

This publication presents IRENA’s latest statistics for renewable power generation and capacity, as well as renewable energy balances for all countries in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Fund for Rural Electrification, 14/03/2016. The State-wise number of villages electrified under Rural Electrification component of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) during the last three years, are given at Annex-I. Under DDUGJY, renewable energy sources are used for rural electrification in case of off-grid villages. Against the sanctioned project cost of Rs.1216.68 crore, a capital subsidy of Rs.1022.64 crore has been earmarked under the scheme. No proposal has been received from the State of Maharashtra under this component.

The first such data set shows renewable power-generation capacity for 2000-2014. The renewable power capacity data shown represents the maximum net generating capacity of power plants and other installations that use renewable energy sources to produce electricity. For most countries and technologies, the data reflects the capacity installed and connected at the end of the calendar year.

This publication titled “Energy Statistics” is brought out every year by Central Statistics Office (CSO) and the present one is the 22nd in the series. The latest data on reserves, installed capacity, potential for generation, production, consumption, import, export and wholesale price of different energy commodities are included in the publication. The publication also includes analytical indicators viz. Growth Rates, Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGR) & Percentage Distributions, in relevant tables to increase the utility of the publication.

The power sector is responsible for more than 40% of all carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels, and about 25% of our total greenhouse gas emissions. If global emissions are to peak and decline in this decade, as the science shows is necessary in order to meet climate protection goals, one focus has to be the power sector.

This 2014 edition of Energy Statistics published by Central Statistics Office (CSO) is 21st in the series and contains latest data on reserves, installed capacity, potential for generation, production, consumption, import, export and wholesale price of different energy commodities. The metadata on Energy Statistics has been included for the first time in this publication.
